Holiday guide Cape Tribulation

Overview:

The cape itself was named by Captain Cook its founder, in the late 1700's, since it was just a little north of here that his troubles tribulations started when he ran his ship on to the Endeavour Reef. In the '70's it was a hippie outpost with a number of settlements, particularly at the infamous Cedar Bay, further north towards Cooktown. Today with further improvements to the road, Cape Tribulation is becoming more popular for visitors. It's not surprising as this stretch of the coast is incredibly beautiful. It's one of the few places in Australia where the rainforest runs right down to the water. The Wet Tropical Rainforests here are now protected by World Heritage Laws so tourists have the privledge of visiting unspoilt virgin rainforest and crystal clear jungle creeks.

Locality:

Cape Tribulation can be found at the top of Queensland in dense rainforest in the vacinity of the Daintree National Park.

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

Scenic lookouts line the road as you weave further into the rainforest, and if you give into impulse and stop at each one-or take one of the many side-routes to the beaches-you won't make it to Cape Trib until after night descends. This sensory deprivation might amplify the rainforest's sounds, but it also makes reading signs difficult (although it is hard to get too lost, this being the only road in and out of the place). Time permitting, though, the Discovery Centre just before Cow Bay is a worthy detour and a fantastic introduction to the Daintree's infinitely complex ecosystem.

Attractions and activities are limited in the area and generally consist of rainforest walks, learning about the rainforests ecosystem and the wide variety of animals, creatures and plants that can be seen. There is also the opportunity to take night tours in the rainforest with a trained guide at one of Cape Tribs 2 main hotel/lodges.
