Holiday guide Bellagio

Overview:

Bellagio a well-known tourist location and elegant health resort situated at the top of the headland that divides the lake in two (the west branch towards Como and the east branch towards Lecco). It is 30 km from the village of Como. It is an exceptionally pretty little resort, quiet with no main road and very little traffic. The lake front and upper road are linked by numerous alleyways and flights of stone steps. The town is compact, old and fascinating and the long, flat lakefront is ideal for a lazy stroll with plenty of cafes along the way.

Locality:

Bellagio is situated at the end of the peninsula which divides Lake Como into two branches, one to Lecco and the other to Como. In front of Bellagio the lake stretches on to Colico and the mountains of St Moritz in the distance. Bellagio is 50 mls from Milan, 17 mls from Como and 17 mls from Lugano (Switzerland).

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

Like most of the Italian lake resorts, Bellagio is mostly frequented by middle aged and elderly couples with a sprinkling of honeymooners and a large number of regulars who come year after year. Sundays see an influx of day visitors from Milan & the suburbs. Bellagio has plenty of scenic walks, lake swimming, visits to villas & gardens open to public. Evening entertainment is virtually nonexistent apart from occasional music and dancing in one of the hotels or at the Lido disco frequented by local youngsters. Excursions consist of: Boat transfer to Cadenabbia to meet coach. St Moritz (day); Stresa (day); Lugano (half day); Bergamo (day).
