This lively, modern resort built beside a long, wide sandy beach, offers just about everything for an enjoyable holiday. Altinkum has something for everyone, safe bathing and watersports, lively lokantas and restaurants, discos, small bustling shops and at both ends of the main beach, quiet sheltered coves. Take the opportunity to visit the nearby site a Didum, where the vast temple of Apollo was once considered one of the most sacred places in antiquity, or perhaps venture further afield for a day trip to Ephesus and Selcuk or the amazing and spectacular Pamukkale.
Altinkum is ideally situated for those who want to travel and explore some of the fabulous sites Turkey has on offer. Nearby towns of Izmir, Kusadasi and Bodrum are interesting and most definitely worth a visit. Famous Roman ruins, the Pamukkale spas, beautiful countryside and much more are only a short drive away. Altinkum is a small but fast-growing resort reached via the Bodrum to Izmir highway. Much major construction work has been completed, although building continues in backstreets and on open land, and gusts of wind raise billowing clouds of dust. The centre of town is almost entirely modern with a pedestrianised sea front, but there is an older and more interesting area, with a few fishing boats, on the W side. There are several important classical sites in the area, including the temple at Didim, 3 mls away.
Locality:
Altinkum is on the Aegean coast of Turkey, 125 mls S of Izmir and 56 mls NW of Bodrum airport. It is situated in a deep bay backed by the gentle hills of a peninsula and the commercial and residential area of Didim.
Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:
Altinkum means "golden sands" and the beaches speak for themselves. Altinkum stretches along the beach and the main village area is only a short walk from the beachfront, promenade and harbour.
Great restaurants, cafes and bars, excellent shopping, vibrant markets and friendly faces make up this lovely town. There are plenty of activities for both young and old in Altinkum and the surounding area, boat trips on the Aegean coast are a must.
