Holiday guide Aghios Georgios South

Aghios Georgios South is also known as St. George South and is a small resort boasting some haphazard modern development and good beaches, but no older, more traditional hub or central nucleus.

Locality:

Aghios Georgios South is situated on the SW coast (12 mls NW of Kavos, 20 mls S of Corfu Town and the airport). It is conveniently positioned on the beach front, surrounded by olive groves, reached by a 1-ml-long, narrow country lane off the main road (a parallel lane leads to the North Issos beach).

Entertainment/Facilities/Attractions/Things to do:

Aghios Georgios South is most popular with couples and families looking for sunshine and uncrowded beaches. The area is good for children as the swimming is safe and there is little road traffic. There is little to nothing in terms of bars and night clubs, hence it's not particularly suited for those seeking lively nightlife. Accommodation here consists mainly of studios, rooms, apartments and 1 hotel complex. The beaches provide a popular catch to this area with 2 main options, totalling around 6 mls, separated by ½ ml of straggling main street. Both are wide, sandy and safe, with sunbeds and parasols; sand dunes by one of them. Although there is very little shade. Entertainment in the area consists mainly of water sports including snorkelling, jet-skiing and paragliding; for something really off-beat, try mud-wrestling in a local clay pit! By night there are a small selection of bars, tavernas and two discos. Getting around the area is mainly centred around a bus that runs 5 times daily to Corfu Town in high season; twice daily in low season. More buses on the main road (Kavos?Corfu). Some taxis. Car, jeep and moped hire. Excursions consist of a full day visit to Corfu Town for shopping; island tour; boat trip to Paxos Island.
